  ((22y2 -  5y) -  1) +  (7y2 - 2y + 3)

Trying to factor by splitting the middle term

 3.1     Factoring  11y²-7y+2 

The first term is,  11y²  its coefficient is  11 .
The middle term is,  -7y  its coefficient is  -7 .
The last term, "the constant", is  +2 

Step-1 : Multiply the coefficient of the first term by the constant   11 • 2 = 22 

Step-2 : Find two factors of  22  whose sum equals the coefficient of the middle term, which is   -7 .

Observation : No two such factors can be found !!
Conclusion : Trinomial can not be factored

Final result :

  11y2 - 7y + 2
